PPL skills test - why I hate origami

Yeehah!

Today I passed my PPL skill test. Quite chuffed I am. Actually quite anebriated I am.

There was a comedy moment during the test when my examiner selected a VOR intercept and position fix using a station on the map that was folded right over on the other side (if you know what I mean). One thing I have not quite mastered is the art of map folding. So, here was I, approaching London Stansted with an exploding map in the cockpit trying to draw a line from the err "to" radial to the south east . Have you ever noticed how hard aeronautical maps are to tear? I thought bu88er it, this map is toast but could I get the bluddy thing to tear? no chance. So fold it I did....badly yes, wonkily yes, not really very square or oblongy yes. In fact it was really a bit a of screwed up balls up of a map but DRAW MY LINE I DID! and it was straight and true and....roughly in the right place.

Anyway, if any of you guys on the other side of the pond get to come over to England, pop in to Andrewsfield. The first WWII airbase built by the USAAF in Europe and home to some of the best instructors and chaps/chappeses onthe planet. Cheers all, I'm off for another one 8))
