Did transition training in an RV-6, TW endorsement in a Citabria. I think it's a bit late for a Sonex transition training as I already flew the tweety bird all over FL and then up north to Cape Cod. The only thing that surprised me about Onex was how sensitive the elevator was -- hence my first takeoff looked a bit funny. Everything else was uneventful. But I wholeheartedly support the idea of getting transition training before getting into a Sonex/Onex. Although I find Onex overall to be more benign than either RV-6 or Citabria.

BTW, we met the Mustang in Boca Raton and the second picture is from a stopover at First Flight -- you can see the Wright Brothers monument in the background.

I've been thinking about the issue of transition training. I didn't want to sound dismissive and, for the avoidance of doubt, I wasn't. In addition to my recent (within weeks) experience flying RV-6, which certainly helped a lot, 50%+ of my previous flying experience was in LSAs (mostly Tecnam 2002 and Flight Design CTLS). Therefore, I think I was more accustomed to very light control feel compared to someone who is more used to flying regular GA airplanes. Maybe that was another reason I didn't find Onex exceptionally challenging. Although, it is worth mentioning that the elevator is certainly by far the most responsive than I've ever experienced. I also very recently went through glider training in a Blanik, so I was very fresh off a bunch of dual instructions in quite responsive airplanes.
What I am trying to say is that, please don't underestimate the importance of transition training before you take off in a Sonex/Onex for the first time.
