Welcome to the group Dale. I'm building a Corvair powered Waiex, with the 3.0 piston and cylinder too. Do you have any performance numbers you could post for us?

Regards, Norm.

Thanks for the reply Dale. Your giving me motivation to keep building, thanks! One question? Is your IAS in Knots or MPH? There maybe you could post a picture?

Regards, Norm

Hi everybody
I am interested in any alternative engine for the Sonex, though overhere in Europe it looks like we cannot buy the plan but the kit only. So the engine will be for a standard JAb or VW supplied with the kit. It is a bit difficult to understand as the WTO would not allow such a limitation, i.e. the sale of kit only for Europe and not just the plans as evewhere else.
This is important for those that in Europe can buy the parts available here like the spars, woulded parts and make the airplane from scratch.
Any comment on the above?
Regards
Lucio

I'm using the Stratomaster Flight II (MGL) and the ASI reads in MPH. No In flight photos but my builder's log has photos of the panel:

Hope this helps!

Lucio,
I hadn't heard that, but I'd suppose Sonex has their reasons for deciding to sell only kits, not plans, in Europe. There's not a lot of profit in selling plans, and it might be that if a European builder doesn't buy a kit at the same time, Sonex sees little prospect of additional sales of parts to help make up for that. Answering the phone and providing support to plans builders isn't cheap, so I'm sure their business depends on selling parts, too.

>Political comment<: I hope the WTO wouldn't get involved to the point of telling Sonex which of it's own products it can sell where. I don't think the outcome would be favorable for anyone. This isn't some sort of international tariff war, it's just a company selling what it produces.

If you build from a kit, why are you limited to the Aerovee or Jabiru engines? Will Sonex not sell you a complete airframe kit without an engine
