Hi all,
My name is Mike Bean. Recently retired from the Army and have resolved 2021 will be the year I complete my Sonex!
I’ve made slow progress on kit 1694 due to multiple PCS moves and deployments but finally have time to give it consistent attention.
I’m in the Whispering Pines/ Ft Bragg NC area.
Would like to talk to anyone nearby that’s working on or has a flying Sonex or another aircraft type that is Corvair powered.
I can be reached at (334) 614-1011.
Thanks and Happy New Year!
Mike

Hi Mike

Good to see you posting! I’m hopeful someone in your area can reach out to help.

Mike emailed me this morning and I asked him to post here in hopes that someone would step up to help him.

Hi Mike

Welcome aboard. Building a classic Waiex with Corvair power. Ready to bolt the motor on the plane, hope to be flying this year.

I’ll keep you posted as the install progresses. Did you build your motor yet? Interested to hear where you’re at with that.

Cheers, Gordon

hi mike,
welcome to sonexbuilders. do you have a corvair engine yet? william wynne has a business selling parts and fwf components for corvair. www.flywithspa.com
On the zenith site, http://www.zenith.aero go to the classifieds for sale, there is always someone selling corvair parts , or complete engines.

Good luck and happy building.

I’ve collected a couple of Corvair core engines and disassembled per the WW manual, but at this point I’m leaning toward purchase of a built engine from WW’s shop.
I picked up a Corvair mount from SPA previously as well.
Currently working on final assembly of left wing with right wing to follow. Fuselage is on the gear but still needs panel and electrical work.
It will be mostly polished with a little rattle can accent here and there.
Planning ASA style swing back canopy (already have the kit) otherwise everything else to plans for Sonex taildragger build.
Thanks all for the warm welcome!
Mike

Hi Mike, and welcome

I am also planning for the ASA style swing back canopy, so I have a question: the kit you have is it an old one, and something you bought recently?

Thanks
Carlos

Hi Carlos,
I bought my kit several years ago (I think about 3-4yrs ago).
I plan to start on it this summer when I can keep the canopy good and warm for fitting/trimming.

Where do I purchase the swing back canopy kit, or plans. Is there a website? I have been trying to find the kit. I have a paper from 2013 with Swing Back Canopy hand writtenon it, which includes a pathway, but it doesn't work anymore. It also lists the American Sonex Association. Would appreciate any help in finding this product. Thanks, Colette Miller Sonex 1552
