East of Atlanta

Greetings all. I purchased a flying plans-built Sonex A-model a couple of years ago and have really been enjoying it. It has a Jabiru 3300 fed by an AeroInjector. I see about 115MPH @2700RPM at 3500'. One of these days, I'll check Sonex' claim of 170MPH @8000'.

Would expect to see a bit more than 115 MPH at 2,700 RPM with a 3300, even with a tri-gear. Are your sure you are readying MPH and not knots ? What prop are you using. What RPMs do you see for Static WOT operation ?

Is that airspeed? Did you calibrate it? Since you bought it flying, I suspect not. How does GPS compare both ways on a calm morning down low? It should be close.

I'll check the indicated airspeed against GPS, but I have never calibrated it. The indicator is definitely reading MPH. I see a bit over 3100 RPM at static WOT. It has a Sensenich wood prop. Maybe I should try convincing my wife to let me get one of those Prince P-tip props?

Wheelpants are installed, but there is no wing-fuselage intersection faring.

3,100 static is only slightly higher than I would expect, what is the model number on your prop ? Assuming you have gear leg fairing along with the wheel pants, 115 MPH is slow for cruise with your engine.
