Safety wire/retention

I have had a bunch of stuff come loose during my 40 hours. Here is a list/pictures of things I have added some safety wire or other retention stuff to.

Valve cover bolts:

My landing gear fairing pins were coming out. I made this little retainer out of a thick piece, a thin piece, and a nutplate.

I ended up changing to a different air filter, and pictures and descriptions of that setup are shown in the thread linked below. If you are counting on a hose clamp to keep it in place you are likely to be disappointed. My new air filter has adequate safety wire to keep it from falling off now. Of course you should safety your Aerocarb to the intake as specified in the manual.

Oil cooler bolts - these two just thread into the oil cooler adapter. Maybe I could have done safety wire but I had to grind down the forward bolt for cowl clearance.

I screwed up one of the pictures - the oil cooler bolt picture is another one of the valve cover safety wire. Unfortunately with lessons learned, both original posts and edits have to be approved by a moderator to keep the fluff out of this category, so it's hard to go back and edit. I'll be using the preview button more frequently here.

Here is another safety I added, and was the catalyst for this submission to lessons learned. My inboard wheel pant screws go into nutplates, which provide locking. There is a 10-32 hole tapped in the end of the axle for the outboard wheel pant retention, and I kept losing them. Loctite was tried and that didn't work. So I made a little washer, drilled a little hole near the edge, bent it up, and riveted it on. This gave me a safety wire point for a hex bolt rather than a low-drag phillips screw.
